WASHINGTON – Allen Fishbein, reputed long term housing advocate and expert, has joined the Consumer Federation of America as its Director of Housing and Credit Policy. Fishbein will be responsible for leading efforts to work for policies and other initiatives that improve protections and regulatory oversight for homebuyers and other mortgage borrowers. Prior to coming to the CFA, Fishbein worked at the Center for Community Change as the organization’s General Counsel and leader on community reinvestment issues. From 1999-2000, he served in a senior policy position at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. There he supervised the oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and helped coordinate the activities of the joint HUD/Treasury Department National Predatory Lending Task Force.
