Idaho Falls Credit Unions, including Beehive FCU, East Idaho CU, Idaho Falls Teachers FCU, Potelco United CU and Scenic Falls FCU have raised over $2,000 during the 16th Annual Scenic River Run to benefit The Development Workshop. The Workshop provides services for individuals with disabilities in Eastern Idaho. Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union, Miramar, Fla., employees donated their time, sweat and carpentry skills to benefit the Habitat for Humanity. The group of 17 separated into three teams to accomplish tasks ranging from laying tile and attaching baseboard, to finishing. Firstmark Credit Union, San Antonio, Texas, has presented a $50,000 check to Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital. This gift is a result of the credit union’s employees’ fundraising efforts and member donations over the past year. Since the credit union began raising money for the hospital, it has donated a total of $490,000. Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union, Fla., has donated $100,000 to the Tampa Historic Streetcar, Inc. for naming rights of the streetcar station stop serving the Centro Ybor entertainment complex. The TECO Line Streetcar System is an electric streetcar line extending 2.3-miles between Ybor City and downtown Tampa. The system operates daily and offers boarding at ten stations. Tower Federal Credit Union, Laurel, Md., employees volunteered to take pledges by phone during the 20th Annual Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. Tower presented the Children’s Miracle Network a check for over $14,500 to benefit the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for diseased and injured children. Pacific Marine Credit Union, San Diego, has helped over 40 sixth graders from Washington Elementary School get a behind-the-scenes look at U.S. Marine Corps life. For the fourth year, the credit union has provided transportation to a graduation ceremony and lunch at the Mess Hall. The idea was the brainchild of Helen and Al George, longtime credit union activists. Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union, has exclusively sponsored the Celebrity Bike Race, which was part of the Faulkner Honda Harrisburg Criterium. State Representative Roy E. Baldwin (Republican, Lancaster County) took first place winning the PSECU Cup. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Pennsylvania Court Appointed Special Advocate Association programs, which represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in court. Tuscaloosa Chapter of Credit Unions, Ala., has donated $50,000 to Hospice of West Alabama’s inpatient facility. Alabama CU, AMH CU, B.F. Goodrich Employees FCU, City CU, DCH CU, Tuscaloosa Teachers CU, Tuscaloosa CU, and Tuscaloosa VA FCU raised the funds. The donation will fund a family kitchen and dining room area that will provide a homelike atmosphere for the presence of family and friends. St. Louis Community Credit Union, Mo., has donated 200 stuffed animals to area children as part of its first annual “Hug A Bear” program. The stuffed animals were presented to the St. Louis Police Department and St. Louis Fire Departments that administer the “Hug A Bear” program. The bears are given to children who have been traumatized by child abuse, domestic violence and other crimes against children. U.S. New Mexico Federal Credit Union, Albuquerque, staffers participated in the 9th Annual Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation’s Mud Volleyball Tournament. Some 480 teams consisting of 6,000 individuals raised money to spend the day in 3 ft. deep mud volleyball courts. Each team played five games while only the most talented teams advanced to the finals. The USNMFCU team consisted of 13 players and four cheerleaders. This event raised over $200,000 for the Carrie Tingley Hospital. South Carolina Federal Credit Union, North Charleston has raised $18,505 to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Staffers came up with creative fundraisers including a department wide prettiest feet contest.
