ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU presented four checks recently to the four armed services charities for $10,000 each. The Army Emergency Relief, Air Force Aid Society, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society evenly split the $40,000 raised by NAFCU, The funds provide emergency financial assistance to military personnel and their families. The $40,000 was NAFCU's direct contribution, but another $40,000 has been raised from individual donors who received the statement stuffers. “I am always amazed by the credit union community whose generosity knows no bounds,” NAFCU CEO and President Fred Becker said. “It is during times when our nation faces its toughest challenges that credit unions immediately swing into action with enthusiasm.” The credit union organization raised the funds through its Operation: Helping Hand, through which NAFCU sold member credit unions pamphlets to display in their branches or use as statement stuffers on how to make donations to the four funds. In total, 125 credit unions in 33 states took advantage of the statement stuffers and reached more than 2 million members through Operation: Helping Hand. In addition to raising funds, the operation's mission was also to raise awareness of the armed services relief agencies. [email protected]
