NRL Federal Credit Union, Oxon Hill, Md., has hosted a car wash to raise money for the local Children's Hospital. Car Wash Supplies were donated by NRLFCU staff and Enterprise Car Sales. Over 15 staff members washed cars and raised over $900 for the Children's Hospital. Spokane Area Credit Unions, Wash., some 60 staffers raised $4,696 for the Children's Miracle Network during the Credit Unions for Kids Annual Longest Day Walk. Participating credit unions included Spokane Teachers CU, Spokane City CU, United Health Services CU, Spokane Postal CU, Spokane Federal CU, Inland Empire Trades CU, Numerica CU, Telco CU, Cheney Federal CU, and Safeway Federal CU. Kansas Super Chief Credit Union, Topeka, has donated $15,585 to the St. Francis Children's Miracle Network. Members and employees participated in many fund raising activities throughout the year including candy bar sales, paper balloon sales, bake sales, skip-a-payment program and the 1st Annual Miracles Golf Classic! Unity One Federal Credit Union, Fort Worth, Texas, has participated in the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association's Behind Bars for Good. Volunteers were issued a warrant, taken into custody, and driven to "jail" only to be released when they gathered enough donations to meet their bail, set at $2,000. The event raised over $52,000 for the MDA. Lansing Area Credit Unions, Mich., eight credit unions from the Lansing area joined together for a softball tournament with the proceeds benefiting the United Way. Participating credit unions included Auto Body CU, Capital Area School Employees CU, Capital Community CU, Communication Services CU, Consumers Professional CU, Lansing Automakers FCU, Michigan State University FCU, and State Employees CU. Twelve teams with over 150 credit union players battled it out over 13 hours to become the Capital Area Credit Union Softball Tournament champions. The event raised approximately $400 for the United Way. Chetco Federal Credit Union, Harbor, Ore., has raised interest and participation in the Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. Members participated in a raffle for a chance to win a Thomas Kincaid print, donated by Dawn Scoggins Home Interiors. United Airlines Employees' Credit Union, Chicago, staffers volunteered alongside United Airlines Chairman, President/CEO Glenn Tilton and other airline employee members to clean up and paint Chicago area schools during the 10th Annual Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon. The event is the city's largest single day of community service, with the airline as one of the largest corporate participants. Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., has teamed up with WMAZ-Television, Blue Bird Body Company and Wal-Mart as co-sponsors of "Operation Back to School". Staffers collected more than 1,000 pounds of school supplies during the campaign. The donated school supplies will help hundreds of underserved Central Georgia students. In addition, the credit union has donated 340 book bags to students at Lindsey Elementary. Kent Credit Union, Ohio, has hosted a blood drive for the American Red Cross. Employees, members and walk-ins donated enough blood to assist in the recovery of 27 people.
