WAUSAU, Wis. -After 68 years, Wausau Insurance Employees Credit Union joins the ranks of many credit unions that have opted to get a new name and look in 2003. It's also another CU moving away from their original sponsor's name. Effective September 17, the $136 million credit union will officially unveil its new name Connexus Credit Union. According to CCU President J. David Christenson, the new name is more inclusive and reflects that the credit union is connected to its past while still being focused on its future. "It was important to choose a name with a strong meaning," said Christenson. "We wanted members to relate to the new name whether they were long-time members or brand new. We are very pleased with the new name and how our members are already `connecting' with it. It is a very positive change for our credit union." With a new brand of "Smile Service Guaranteed", the new name plays on the Latin word "conexus" which stands for connection and union. To create its own identity, the credit union added another "n" to the word. According to CCU Marketing Director Darcey Westcott, since the credit union believes in providing superior service beyond expectations to members and SEGs they decided to offer members a guarantee. The goal is not limited to a smiling staff but also to have every member smiling and satisfied with any transaction they conduct with the credit union from in-branch visits to Web site experiences. The logo further reinforces the "people element" by having the "x" in a larger font and placing a circle above it to make it look like a person.
