COLUMBIA, S.C. – After 22 years of being disaffiliated from the South Carolina Credit Union League, Fort Jackson FCU has rejoined the league, making all of the state's 179 credit unions league-affiliated. This is the first time ever all the credit unions in the state have been affiliated with the SCCUL. As of year-end 2002, Fort Jackson FCU had the fourth largest membership – 87,346 members – and the sixth highest assets – $319,182.3 million – of any credit union in South Carolina. Prior to Fort Jackson FCU rejoining the league, the only other credit union in the state that wasn't affiliated was South Carolina Methodist Conference CU. That credit union rejoined the league in March 2000. Fort Jackson FCU is a multiple bond CU with about 400 SEGs. It also serves the underserved counties of Fairfield, Newberry, and Saluda, plus defined areas of downtown Columbia and lower Richland County.
