Mike Welch's column in the June 4th issue, "The Number of Questions Keeps Increasing" was on the mark. Coming from the banking side, it is hard for me to understand how credit unions can sit back and allow banks to chip away at our cause and our integrity. Banks really do not like each other, but they put aside their distaste for one another to go after and destroy the evil credit unions. Why are we evil? Because we out-service them, we out-care them, and we out-help them. We help our members become profitable and of course, banks believe all profitable members should be theirs. For 100 years, banks have shunned our members, but now they want us out of the picture. Trust me – they do not want equal billing, they want eradication of our cause. Unless we put aside our differences and work together, the banks will win. We need to deliver a positive message that shows the passion, the heart, and the love, we have for our members. We need to remind and educate everyone who we are and why we are here so a new generation will take up our cause. We need great leaders in the credit union movement to step up to the plate and let's all get this rolling. Michael Silvers Branch Manager Vista FCU Burbank, Calif.
