The Federal Reserve has jurisdiction over a wide variety of financial institutions and activities and works with other state and federal regulators to ensure safety and soundness and financial market stability while protecting consumers in their financial dealings. The Fed writes many of the major consumer protection regulations, investigates complaints, and testifies before Congress on consumer protection issues. The Fed also has the Consumer Advisory Council-including E Federal Credit Union CEO Ken Bordelon as well as several banking, consumer, and community groups-that advises the agency on consumer issues such as credit cards, ATMs, car leases, and mortgages. Additionally, the Fed governs payment issues.
