DETROIT- Who needs Disney's Nemo when Credit Union ONE has sponsored the underwater world of MacGillivray Freeman's Coral Reef Adventure. The Coral Reef Adventure is set to debut at the new Detroit Science Center's IMAXr Dome Theatre on July 26, 2003. The film follows the real-life expedition of ocean explorers and underwater filmmakers Howard and Michele Hall as they guide viewers to the islands and sun-drenched waters of the South Pacific to document the health and beauty of coral reefs. The groundbreaking underwater journey brings to life the true beauty and diversity of this fragile ecosystem. The film highlights that problems such as over-fishing, over-development and global warming have already decimated coral reefs, and threaten to destroy these important ecosystems unless the global community takes more action to protect them. Film director Greg MacGillivray expressed his desire that the film will inspire greater awareness and understanding of coral reefs. "Coral reefs are some of the most wondrous, fragile ecosystems on this planet and they are essential to the health of our world oceans," said MacGillivray. "With this film we show audiences why they are important, not only from the perspective of their unparalleled beauty and biodiversity but by showing their significance as a barometer of our planet's health and our balance with nature here on earth."
