It was interesting to me that in his May 21st column, "All Eggs In One Basket Makes No Sense," Mike Welch cited Bob Bream, former president/CEO, United Airlines Employees' Credit Union as an advocate of reaching out beyond the United Airlines workforce. Ironic. This would be the same Bob Bream who, at the GAC about four years ago, pontificated on the "purity" of single-sponsor credit unions and maintained that only these credit unions were still true to the spirit and mission of cooperatives. Bob very forcefully castigated those credit unions that had strayed from the right path. I recall that the gentleman sitting next to me in the session commented, "Bet he wouldn't be talking like that if the name of his credit union were TWA………." Prophetic, no?
