PHOENIX, Ariz. – Bank of America is tapping into homeownership dreams of Hispanics here by hosting the “Hispanic Home Show.” The program is the bank’s first free major homebuyer education effort conducted entirely in Spanish. The Bank of America Hispanic Home Show will feature educational seminars that will cover housing discrimination, saving and managing money, advantages and disadvantages of home ownership, overview of the home buying process and information on HUD (Housing and Urban Development) homes. Representatives of more than 30 home mortgage, realty, insurance, heating and cooling, home sales, communications, alarm, construction and remodeling companies among others will be on hand to answer questions during the free one-day event. “The American dream isn’t complete without owning a home, but that dream remains elusive for many Hispanics,” said Cecilia Hernandez, BofA consumer executive for the Southwest Region. “Only 46% of Hispanics nationally are homeowners, compared to the overall national average of 66%. The one obstacle preventing many Hispanics from attaining the American dream is education about and an understanding of the home buying and ownership process.”
