ST. JOSEPTH, Mich. – First Resource FCU, the sixth largest federal credit union in the state, is showing no let up in its habit of merging with out-of-state credit unions. In its latest move, the $350-million FRFCU merged with $3.1-million Marion FCU in Ohio. First Resource FCU is a multi-state federal credit union with offices in Marion, Fort Smith, Ark., and St. Joseph and Holland, Mich. Dave Dykwell, vice president, marketing for the credit union said in the past, First Resource has merged with out-of-state CUs such as Coates Hennessey CU, Laverne, Ky. First Resource closed its branch there several years ago. First Resource also merged with several in-state CUs such as Lakeland CU. Members of the former Marion FCU will be served from First Resource's office in the city which is about two miles from Marion's facility. Marion FCU's building was donated by First Resource FCU to Habitat for Humanity. In addition, all Marion FCU employees were retained and are working at First Resource's Marion branch. Dykwell said First Resource expects Marion FCU's members to "react positively" to the merger. Since First Resource is so much larger than Marion FCU was, "there will be a lot of services and products available to them, as well as better pricing, than before."
