ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Concerned that security requirements had shut too many of its branches off from too many of its members, the $5.2 billion Pentagon Federal Credit Union has opened a branch in the Kingstown area of Alexandria, Va. for the benefit of retired military members as well as family members of military employees. "We have high expectations for our newest, most accessible branch," said Dave Jones, director of operations for east coast branches for the credit union. He cited the site's almost unlimited parking, the fact that no military ID is required for entry and the fact that it's open six hours on Saturday and three hours on Sunday, as popular features. The branch is a full-service branch with tellers and member service representatives, along with two ATMs, accessible with any ATM, debit or credit card, the credit union said. Military retirees along with families and contractors, and even active duty personnel, have found entry restricted in some DOD buildings, particularly the Pentagon. Access to military installations has tightened as threat levels have risen in connection with the war on terror and the war in Iraq, a Pentagon FCU spokesman said.
