ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA announced the availability of grants to low-income designated credit unions participating in the Community Development Revolving Loan Fund's 2003 Student Intern Program. Applications for the funds must be submitted by May 16. The program requires the host low-income CU to partner with another credit union to provide a student intern the experience in various work environments. "This partnering arrangement helps the student intern to develop a broad appreciation of the challenges and rewards of working at a low-income credit union as well as experience the challenges and rewards that a more complex credit union offering a variety of services and products may provide," the Letter to Federal Credit Unions read. NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar encouraged low-income credit unions, and potential partners, to consider the opportunities the program offers. LICUs should begin receiving application packets shortly, which can be returned to NCUA's Office of Credit Union Development.
