ARVADA, Colo. – The Colorado Credit Union System has gone to the animals with the unveiling of its CU Pet Source Program. CCUS has signed up with Lockton Associates to market the program, which will enable credit unions to provide various pet-related products and services. According to CCUS, the partnership will hopefully give credit unions a unique opportunity to not only target a different segment of the population but also provide a distinct service in return. An American Animal Hospital Association finds that 60% of households have either a dog or cat, of which 84% refer to themselves as their pet's "mom" or "dad" and 72% greet their pet first. Designed with such animal lovers in mind, the program includes such pet "perks" as personalized checks featuring a member's favorite pet's photo and pet insurance for cats and dogs. Plans are also underway for the interactive Web site www.cupetsource.com, to include such resources as online breeding information, pet name database, and daily news briefs covering topics ranging from medical and training advice to helpful behavioral tips. The arrangement marks Ontario, Canada-based Pethealth Inc.'s expansion into the U.S. as the exclusive provider of pet insurance to credit union members participating in the program, under the PetCare Pet Insurance brand name. Credit unions interested in the program can visit www.cupetsource.com for details.
