ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Doing its part to help the military, Kirtland Federal Credit Union located on the Kirtland Air Force Base said this week it has granted 55 loan extensions to deployed members under a 9/11-based program to aid military members and their dependents. Under a slogan, "more than just flag waving, KFCU helping our military families," the Albuquerque CU said it is making good use of a package of services initiated after 9/11 that are designed to ease financial burdens for the newly deployed, said Lorri Gaffney, director of public relations. Forty percent of Kirtland's 32,000 members, are active duty households. Under its new policy, Kirtland grants to military deployed two extensions per calendar year on loans that remain current. The CU said also it is offering a "Deployment Relief Loan" of $500 with a 6% APR and the first payment due 60 days after closing. The repayment period is one year. Kirtland also has a separate military checking account for active duty, National Guard or Reservists activated or deployed that includes no minimum, free checks, unlimited ATM use and a free KFCU check card. It also includes free travelers checks and three free cashiers' checks per day.
