ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA Vice Chair JoAnn Johnson has the right connections and politics to be the next chair of the regulatory board, according to an NCUA source. Aside from knowing President George W. Bush personally, Johnson has other connections that should help her obtain the seat, the source said. She has also worked hard to support the president's homeownership goals and expand access to capital for small and start-up entrepreneurs. NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar's term is set to expire this week. However, most in the credit union community expect him to stick around for a while longer. In the past, NCUA Board members have served beyond their official terms, such as former Chairman Norm D'Amours who served a year beyond his appointment.
