Visions Federal Credit Union, Endicott, N.Y., has donated much needed protective wall mats to the Tioga County Boys & Girls Club gymnasium. The mats were unveiled at the annual Basketball Tip-off Tournament where Visions President/CEO Frank Berrish served as an honorary referee, throwing up the initial tip-off ball to kick off the tournament. Credit Union ONE, Ferndale, Mich., employees manned the phone center for the 16th Annual WOMC Salvation Army Radiothon. Their efforts helped to raise an additional $174,000 to benefit the Salvation Army's Bed and Bread Club. The organization helps to feed and shelter thousands of needy people in the Detroit area. Erie Shores Credit Union, Inc., Maumee, Ohio, has participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowling for Kids. Six teams made up of ESCU employees and their families combined to raise $1,800 for the organization. First American Credit Union, Beloit, Wis., has exceeded its goal for the "Chain of Hearts" fundraising campaign, which benefits the Children's Miracle Network. Tellers sold paper links to form a chain of pink hearts in the lobby of each branch. Each link sold for $1, but many people purchased up to 10 at a time. FACU raised a total of $505 for CMN. California Coast Credit Union, San Diego, has donated over 500 books for the Ross Elementary School library. In addition, the credit union has provided nine refurbished computers systems for the classrooms, and a brand new replacement set of two-way radios that had been stolen from the school. Telhio Credit Union, Columbus, Ohio, has donated over 200 Ohio State Basketball tickets to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Ohio through a partnership with The Merry Makers Club, Inc. Many of the children in the club might never have gotten the chance to see the hometown OSU Buckeyes play. Telhio has also contributed to specific youth outreach programs including Junior Achievement Exchange City, CMCACO/Telhio Conrad Woody, Sr. $1,000 Scholarship Award and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Laurel Federal Credit Union, Joliet, Mont., has donated $2,500 to the Community Center Board of Directors. Funds raised will help with completing the interior finish work. New tenants for the Center include a Headstart Program, medical clinic, community library, and community hall/senior citizens' area. Spectrum Federal Credit Union, San Francisco, Calif., and the El Camino Chapter of Credit Unions have collaborated in a clothing drive to benefit job seekers in the Bay Area. Through the distribution of vouchers by local service agencies, individuals are provided with business attire that may help in their search for employment. The month long drive was open to all staff, members, and vendors. The clothing drive resulted in the collection of over 18 bags of clothing. The Connecticut Credit Union Association, Wallingford, has raised a total of $9,469 for the Connecticut National Guard's Family Services Program in 2002. Funds were donated through a reception to benefit the Connecticut National Guard's Family Program and "Operation Enduring Gratitude," a statewide bi-partisan effort to purchase phone cards that would allow military personnel stationed overseas to contact their family. Over $2,000 in monetary contributions and gift cards were collected. In addition, at least 35 gift baskets filled with food were donated for the families of those called to active duty. St. Louis Postal Credit Union, Mo., has selected St. Vincent Home for Children as its adopted charity. St. Vincent Home For Children is a residential treatment facility for children who have been abused and/or neglected. Funds raised totaling $1,788 were used to purchase cloth bulletin boards for each child and VCRs for three of the apartments. The remainder was used to clean the carpets in the children's apartments.
