Simpson Community Federal Credit Union, Shelton, Wash., has raised over $500 for the Children's Miracle Network through a Valentine's Day sale in their lobby. Members were encouraged to purchase Valentine balloons and teddy bears for their loved ones or purchase raffle tickets to win one of five fun gift baskets donated by local merchants. The credit union employees routinely hold fundraisers on Valentine's Day, Halloween and Christmas to benefit the Seattle Children's Hospital. In 2002 a total of $785 was raised. Lafayette Credit Union Chapter, La., has raised over $15,000 for the Lafayette Association for Retarded Citzens. Donated funds will go toward teaching living and working skills to the mentally retarded over 21 and an early intervention program for at-risk infants and toddlers under three. Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, St. Paul, Minn., has formed partnerships to support such organizations as the Special Olympics, Junior Achievement and the Minnesota State Foster Care's Pathways program. The MSFCP program teaches young people independent living skills.
