WASHINGTON – Wow, there were 72 credit unions over $1 billion in assets as of year-end 2002. That number is up from the 65 reported during the third quarter of 2002. CUNA Chief Economist Bill Hampel says in time the very large CUs will have a big impact on the industry as a whole. "It will be gradual, but as they go, the industry will go as it continues to consolidate," he said.
