LATHAM, New York – The New York Credit Union League’s convention in 2003 will focus on helping credit unions in New York identify and meet the needs of underserved communities and low-income members, according to Susan Landauer, senior vice president for member services for the league. “We are planning speakers and breakout sessions designed to address the theme of Making A Difference,” Landauer said. The meeting will be held at Saratoga Springs, N.Y. from June 11-15, 2003. Confirmed speakers include NCUA Board Member Deborah Matz. The league has sent requests to CEOs and other leaders from credit unions that have had success helping the underserved and low-income members to step forward to volunteer for different panels, Landauer said. One venue for these panels will be breakout sessions which are organized around credit union asset size, in order to help institutions get advice from other credit unions of comparable size and experience, Landauer explained. NCUA staff will also offer a detailed presentation on how credit unions can use the agency’s Web site and streamlined procedures to more easily add underserved areas to their fields of membership, Landauer said.
