WASHINGTON – According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more people are employed in the mortgage industry even when the general unemployment rate for the U.S. is high. A seasonally adjusted report from the Bureau for the month of December showed almost 407,000 people held the title of mortgage broker or banker. That's an increase of almost 1.8% from November which had 400,000 mortgage professionals, and an almost 16% increase from December 2001′s figure of about 352,000.
