TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The former Florida Department of Banking and Finance is now known as the Florida Department of Financial Services. The name change was necessitated by a constitutional amendment voters passed in 1998 combining the office of the state treasurer, who oversees the Department of Insurance and also serves as the state fire marshall, with the comptroller, who also serves as the head of the Department of Banking & Finance. The duties and responsibilities of both offices are now under the new Department of Financial Services.
