Pacific Service CU, Fresno, Calif., has donated $2,000 to the "Break the Barriers" program for kids. The program matches able-bodied children with disabled children and introduces them to the world of sports and arts. The program currently serves over 2,000 people each week, teaching gymnastics, martial arts, dance, sign language, juggling, baton twirling and art. The donation covered the cost of such equipment as a molly ball, a mailbox vault, a springboard, hop balls, gym skis, tuffy baseballs and grip balls. Maine Credit Union League, Westbrook, during a statewide month-long walking tour of 66 credit unions Brenda Davis, executive director of Cross Roads Ministries collected over $4,000 to benefit her food organization. Davis covered over 400 miles during the first annual Maine CUs Ending Hunger Walking Tour. Since 1990, the Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised over $1.1 million to help end hunger in Maine. Numerica Credit Union, Spokane, Wash., employees have raised $2,900 for children at the Hutton Settlement during an annual Bake Sale and Craft Auction. and raised $2,900 for children at the Hutton Settlement. Employees make donations of homemade craft items, baked goods, and assorted treasures to auction off. Hutton Settlement provides residential care for children, ages 5-18, in a family-like setting of four individual cottages, each with its own house-parents. The funds raised will be used to help send every child at Hutton Settlement to summer camp in 2003. Massachusetts Credit Union League Affordable Housing/Homeless Trust, Southborough, has made a record donation of $55,000 to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. One of the ways that the Coalition for the Homeless assists families in is through the Donations Assistance Program (DAP). This program provides donated furniture and household items to homeless families that have recently found a place to stay. The funds donated by the credit unions are used to help make this program possible. This year's total includes the proceeds of three different fundraising efforts: the league's Annual Charity Golf Tournament, the sale of candy bars and direct contributions from 46 individual credit unions, chapters and friends of credit unions Chetco Federal Credit Union, Harbor, Ore., has sponsored its annual food drive to feed the hungry in Del Norte and Curry Counties. Each lobby of the six branches of Chetco Federal Credit Union was prepped with donation boxes to accept any non-perishable food items.
