WOBURN, Mass. – Credit Unions of Massachusetts Kids at Heart Team recently made a big splash on television with its $240,000 donation to the Children's Hospital Boston. Organized by Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union President/CEO Jane Melchionda six years ago, the 29 Kids at Heart participating credit unions have raised nearly $900,000 and expect to reach the $1 million mark early next year. To add something special to the presentation, credit unions brought along 12 NFL players from the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots. Credit unions also were featured through a broadcast interview of seven-year-old Andy Martin and his family. Since birth, Andy has received care from Children's Hospital for spina bifida. Andy is the patient-partner for Ray Phillips, a director of Hanscom FCU and long-distance runner. For the past three years, Phillips has run the Boston Marathon in Andy's honor, each time finishing with Andy on his shoulders.
