LATHAM, N.Y. – The New York State Credit Union League's Card Services program has negotiated an agreement with Certegy that will allow League-affilitiated member credit unions to offer their members $150,000 of travel insurance whenever they use their credit union card to purchase a ticket on a common carrier, whether that carrier be airline, bus company, shipping firm, railroad or taxi service. The insurance will apply to both debit and credit card users and will not require any additional paperwork or sign-up by the credit union members. However, Bonnie Sklar, League public relations coordinator, did emphasize that credit union members would have to charge the entirety of their fare on their card. "It doesn't matter whether the fare is a full fair or a discount fare," Sklar said, "but in order to be eligible for the insurance a member has to charge the entire cost of their fare on their credit union card. Some people like to put part of the fare on the card and pay the balance in cash, but in order to be eligible for the insurance the member will have to put the whole thing on the card," she explained.
