MADISON, Wis. – At press time, CUNA Mutual was still trying to hammer out a deal with its union over how many employees will be laid off. The company also has some work to do with its board of directors, as two recent resignations leave the board two people short. In an expected move, Bob Bream, former president/CEO of United Airlines Employees CU, Chicago, resigned from the board after his resignation from the CU. Bream now works for card processor Certegy. The more surprising move was that of Orange County Teachers FCU President/CEO Rudy Hanley. Hanley resigned in late October to spend more time at the credit union. "There is a big time commitment serving on the board that I'm not able to meet any more. There are a lot of things that need my attention at the credit union," said Hanley. "Part of the reason I felt comfortable resigning is I believe management is doing a great job and the organization is in very good shape," he said. The empty board slots will be filled in the coming months according to the board's bylaws. Bream had served on the board since 1997, and Hanley since 1999. CUNA Mutual's Board now consists of the following 10 people: * Larry Wilson, President/CEO, Coastal FCU * C. Alan Peppers, President/CEO, Denver Public Schools CU * Brian McDonnell, President/CEO, Navy FCU * James Barbre, President/COO, ACT Technologies * Jerald Hinrichs, President, Hinrichs & Associates * Loretta Burd, President/CEO, Centra CU * Farouk Wang, Director for Buildings & Grounds Management, University of Hawaii at Manoa * Omar Reed, General Dentist in private practice * Ralph Canterbury, retired President/CEO, US Airways FCU * Mike Kitchen, President/CEO, CUNA Mutual Group.
