AMES, Iowa – ISU Community Credit Union is changing its name in anticipation of mergers that will expand its geographic reach. The credit union, which originated with employees of Iowa State University, now becomes Greater Iowa Credit Union. "This name change is a critical feature of the credit union's strategic plan," said CEO and president M. Kim Sharp. "The new name more accurately reflects the expanding nature of the credit union." Less than two years ago the Ames-based credit union switched to a community charter and added "Community" to its name. Marketing and Public Relations Director Amy Juhnke said the latest change anticipates several mergers that will expand the geographic reach of the credit union. While she declined to identify the merging credit unions, she said the mergers would add offices in Des Moines and Marshalltown, which, like Ames, are in central Iowa. Greater Iowa CU currently has three offices in Ames and one in West Des Moines. The credit union is developing a new logo and will publicize the name change with mailings and media advertising, which, Juhnke said, will include advertising print, radio and television advertising.
