At one time credit union CEOs (“managers” back then) were referred to as “bankers in overalls.” The prevailing image of CUs at that time was that they were basically pretty simple and unsophisticated mom and pop operations. Today, a substantial number of credit unions lead the pack among high-tech financial institutions and that number is growing rapidly. Yet, there are still those, including high-profile tech vendors, who perceive credit unions as strangers to technology. They just assume CUs are not potential customers because they lag far behind banks. They don’t! As regular readers of Credit Union Times are well aware, tech vendors who dismiss credit unions out of hand need only pick up any of the numerous and comprehensive special reports on technology that this publication publishes throughout the year. They will be amazed to see how far CUs have come in the high-tech world. The reason Credit Union Times does such a thorough job of covering technology as it applies to credit unions is not to impress potential technology-related vendors. Rather, it is to provide an idea exchange forum. And to provide accurate, timely, interesting, and exclusive tech information that helps credit unions serve their members more efficiently and more cost effectively. Also, because our readership surveys show reader interest in technology is consistently very high. No other credit union publication even comes close to devoting the amount of space Credit Union Times does to original coverage of every aspect of technology. Now you know why.
