Pacific Service Credit Union, Walnut Creek, Calif., has sponsored the Fresno, San Francisco and Walnut Creek Walk to Cure Diabetes by donating $15,000. The Walk to Cure Diabetes is a walkathon benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Staff members also participated in the walks, raising money through sponsors. OMEGA Federal Credit Union, Pittsburgh, Pa., has donated its time for the fourth annual Soiree for Safety. Groups of children were on hand to learn about the importance of safety while having fun. Volunteers from the local police station, fire department, burn center and a toy store gave safety tips and gifts to the children. Along with learning valuable information about safety, children took part in other activities including games, fingerprinting, photo IDs, and touring a fire truck. San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union, Calif., has hosted its third annual blood drive, in which 55 pints of blood were collected by the San Diego Blood Bank. This year's drive was record-breaking with almost 70% more donations than past years. Participants received goodie bags with gifts, coupons and a raffle entry. Sponsors included Pat & Oscars, Henry's Marketplace, Mimmos, San Diego Zoo, Johnny Brown's, Dining In, Best Buy and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Telesis Community Credit Union, Chatsworth, Calif., has recently sponsored several events to enhance the quality of life in its community. TCCU has sponsored the Canyon Country Library Project, the Jaycees Holiday Toy Collection project, and the Single Mothers Outreach holiday efforts. In addition, credit union employees have raised funds for the AIDS Walk Los Angeles, to benefit AIDS Project LA and other Los Angeles AIDS-related service organizations; Juvenile Diabetes Walk, to benefit the American Diabetes Association in Van Nuys; Leukemia/Lymphoma Walk, and Walk of Ages, to benefit the Jewish Home for the Aging – Reseda. Proceeds from the sale of the colorful teddy bears found in each credit union branch will be donated to these charities. Ent Federal Credit Union, has not only taken first place in the INROADS eighth annual Corporate Volleyball Tournament but also managed to raise funds for INROADS. The mission of INROADS is to develop and place talented minority youth in business and industry and prepare them for corporate and community leadership. This is the first year that Ent FCU has participated in the tournament, and, according to the team members, they plan to return next year.
