BALTIMORE-Rubbing elbows with a powerful lawmaker at election time, CUNA Vice President and Senior Legislative Counsel Gary Kohn inadvertently tried to steal the spotlight. While attending a fundraiser for House Financial Services Committee Chairman Mike Oxley (R-Ohio) at a recent Baltimore Orioles v. New York Yankees game, Kohn (standing next to Oxley) was featured in a photo in the New York Times that ran November 3, accompanying an article entitled “A Friend of Main St., or Wall St.?” The article questioned Oxley’s commitment to investors as opposed to industry, partially due to the large campaign contributions he received from the financial services industry. Credit unions have supported Oxley in his campaign.
