SAN FRANCISCO-A recent America's Community Bankers (ACB) overnight fax poll of all ACB members during their annual conference last week demonstrated community bankers' commitment to their communities. Half of community bank presidents and CEOs devote 11 hours or more per month to nonprofits and other local organizations, the survey found. Banking presidents and CEOs performing more than 20 hours volunteering on nonprofit boards or other work tallied 21%. Nine out of 10 community banks assist six or more nonprofit community organizations and 73% back 11 or more, ACB found of its members. Leaders of the smallest banks, under $100 million in assets, can take credit for a great deal of these stats with 55% personally giving at least 11 hours to volunteer work and 65% said their institutions back at least six nonprofits. ACB's annual conference continued through Wednesday, November 6.
