ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA issued a Letter to Federal Credit Unions notifying them of opportunities with AmeriCorps*VISTA program as part of the agency's Access Across America initiative. The initiative is aimed at creating economic empowerment in communities where credit unions serve. AmeriCorps*VISTA provides a Cost-Share Partnership to aid credit unions and others in leveraging human resources necessary to start wealth building projects while avoiding typical start-up or expansion costs, according to the letter. As a Cost-Share Partner, a credit union would contribute a $9,500 living allowance for each AmeriCorps*VISTA member and the program covers the cost of benefits and services to the member, like payroll services and health insurance. AmeriCorps*VISTA members can help credit unions conduct demographic studies; develop marketing programs, create specific loan or share programs, or crafting financial counseling programs. AmeriCorps*VISTA, established in 1965, is a group of nearly 6,000 nonprofits and public agencies nationwide helping low-income people.
