SAN DIEGO – As the surprise summer hit "American Idol" winds down, it is out with the old and in with the new hopefuls including one from credit union-land. Mission Federal Credit Union Teller/singer Johnny Magbanua is headed to the Fox program "American Idol." Sponsored by Fox 6 News and radio station Channel 93.3, San Diego's version of "American Idol" will air tomorrow morning between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Eighteen-year-old Magbanua and seven other finalists will sing acapella on the local Fox affiliate for a chance to be recorded on a music CD and meet American Idol producers in Los Angeles. Radio station listeners and TV viewers will vote for the winner by logging on to Channel933.com's site Thursday morning after the competition airs. Magbanua originally competed against 159 other San Diego hopefuls in a Mission Valley mall. A recent graduate of Mira Mesa High School, Magbanua says he's been singing since he was five years old when he climbed onto a coffee table and sang along with his father's guitar-playing.
