GREENSBORO, N.C. – U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) was among the members of Congress who addressed the more than 200 credit union professionals June 17 at the North Carolina Credit Union League's annual Governmental Affairs Forum. Also appearing and speaking to conferees was Congressman Robin Hayes (R-N.C.). In addition to promising his continued support of credit unions and the "people helping people" philosophy, Etheridge spoke about the importance of supporting legislation to combat terrorism, the challenges of turning the economy around, the critical importance of passing bankruptcy reform. Hayes stressed the importance of building relationships and getting involved in the political process. He called relationships "the business of good government." More than 160 credit unions are affiliated with the North Carolina Credit Union League. They have combined assets of over $15 billion and serve more than 2.2 million members.
