<p>When the National Issues Panel led by Credit Union Times publisher Mike Welch takes place at the CUNA Symposium next September, I hope the role regulations are playing in inhibiting CU growth efforts comes up for discussion. They are a major reason for credit union conversions to thrift charters. It's also an outgrowth of the (lack of) financial competitiveness issue. An open-ended discussion on this topic is overdue and certainly more useful than credit union groups playing dueling letters with the bankers.
