<p>ARLINGTON, Va. – Despite lagging major credit card issuers in terms of perks and high credit limits, credit union credit cards continue to outperform major issuers in some significant areas, according to CardWeb.com a site on the World Wide Web devoted to tracking credit card news. According to CardWeb, in the first quarter of 2002 credit unions' credit cards, on average, had higher balances and volumes than did the top card issuers. The site reported that the average balance among active credit union accounts was $2,562 compared to an average of $2,385 among the top ten bank card issuers. Credit union volumes also led the way, outpacing the top ten competitors on an average basis, $1,231 for credit unions vs. $1,096 for the bank top ten. Military credit unions like Pentagon Federal and Navy Federal had the most active volumes, the site reported.</p>
