ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA announced the liquidation May 10 of First Hialeah Community Federal Credit Union of Hialeah, Fla. and its combination with Government Employees Credit Union of Florida. First Hialeah re-opened May 14 as Government Employees Credit Union of Florida with full deposit and payment services. The approximately 5,400 First Hialeah members' accounts were transferred to join the more than 30,000-members of the $129 million Government Employees Credit Union. Government Employees is a state-chartered, federally-insured credit union. First Hialeah Community Federal Credit Union was chartered by NCUA in 1970. The credit union had approximately $28 million in assets when liquidated. The liquidation by NCUA was due to insolvency, according to NCUA Regional Director Alonzo Swann. The National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund insured all funds up to $100,000 per account.
