WASHINGTON – The $717 million Wright Patt Credit Union, based in Fairborn, Ohio, became the ninth credit union to sign up with KeyCorp's effort to expand its 2,400 ATM branch network to other financial institutions. KeyCorp is a part of Key Bank, an $81 billion institution based in Cleveland. The move will allow Wright Patt's 150,000 members fee free access to KeyCorp's 2,400 ATM's nationwide. KeyCorp is "rapidly expanding" in an effort to build its bank network into a broader network involving other financial institutions, according to Jill Arslanian, KeyCorp spokesperson. In addition to the nine credit unions (including Wright Patt), ten banks have signed on, Arslanian said. Six more credit unions are pending and two banks as well, she added. While free to the credit union members, however, the transactions are not really free. Wright Patt will still have to pay a fee to KeyCorp for each transaction. Arslanian would not reveal the transaction amount but said it was based on transaction volume. "Wright-Patt members can now enjoy increased ATM access nationwide while using their local credit union accounts," said Douglas Fecher, President & CEO of Wright-Patt Credit Union. "With the added ATM access, we are able to provide a great benefit to our members by offering them the convenience of conducting their daily financial business in so many new locations," he added. "With this agreement, Wright-Patt Credit Union members can enjoy convenient, 24-hour access at more locations – from 3,100 ATMs (including the Alliance One ATM network) to over 5,500 overnight," said Daniel J. Neistadt, Executive Vice President, Key Consumer Payment Sales. Arslanian said the appeal of having a large network has been drawing credit union interest. "Credit unions may have only one or two ATMs, or maybe 40 but all in the same area. Linking up with KeyCorp lets them have fee free access many more places," she said.
