RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – The California Credit Union League surprised retiring WesCorp CEO Richard Johnson on April 16 by naming the league's training facility at its Rancho Cucamonga offices, the Richard M. Johnson Training Center. Johnson will retire on May 22 after leading WesCorp for 25 years. At a surprise ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the training facility, the league presented Johnson with a plaque honoring Johnson as a "credit union visionary." The plaque will be placed inside the training center. Speaking at the ceremony, CCUL President/CEO David Chatfield applauded Johnson whom he said has been "a mentor and inspiration to many he has touched the lives and influenced the careers of countless credit union professionals." Johnson told league staff members gathered for the occasion that, "It's been an honor to have had this job and be associated with all of you. It's been a wonderful part of my life." WesCorp was established as a CCUL affiliate in 1969 as California Central Federal Credit Union to serve the liquidity needs of CUs and CU organizations in California. In 1977, the credit union changed its name to Western Corporate FCU to reflect its regional charter to serve CUs and CU associations in NCUA Region IV.
