<p>Granite City Steel & Community Federal Credit Union, Ill., own Cindy Schubert has been nominated as a possible candidate for Who's Who Historical Society. Founded in 1928, WWHS provides a comprehensive listing of professionals whose contributions shape and direct the destiny of nations. Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union, Daleville, Ala., has named Collection Officer Sue Ellen Thompson its Employee of the Year. The award is presented to those individuals who provide outstanding service to both members and fellow employees. Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union, West Lafayette, Ind., has received an Award of Merit from the United Way of Greater Lafayette in the "Best Overall Campaign for 2001″ category for businesses with 50-199 employees. Donations to various non-profit organizations including the American Heart Association, March of Dimes and Family Services totaled $184,000. Great Lakes Credit Union, Ill., has been presented the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award by the Illinois Credit Union League. This is the 10th year the credit union has received the award. The Maxwell award honors credit unions for exceptional efforts in providing charitable works in their communities. Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, Media, Pa., President/CEO John D. Unangst's past 25 years of outstanding service has been immortalized in a new scholarship program. The John D. Unangst Scholarship will be presented to three deserving graduating seniors each year with a $1,500 award. NAFCU, Washington, has been recognized by Association Trends as runner up in the "Convention Promotion Kit" category for the trade association's 2001 annual conference delegate promotion . In addition, NAFCU received an honorable mention in the "Membership Promotion Kit" category for "NAFCU: Your Direct Membership Association." CTCE Federal Credit Union, Reading, Pa., is the first credit union in Berks County to win the People's Choice Award. Each year the public is surveyed and selects its favorites in a variety of categories. CTCE was selected as the top choice over 15 other local credit unions. CTCE's selection as a People's Choice winner will be promoted on billboards throughout the county, as well as in radio advertisements and newspaper spots. CTCE will also use this theme for its upcoming annual meeting in March. Day Air Credit Union, Kettering, Ohio, has recognized the achievements of four employees. Selected by their peers for their dedication, exceptional service and positive impact, recipients were presented the following awards: Lori Poland, Rookie of the Year; Valerie Gifford, Associate Peer Recognition; Cindy LeBrun, Manager Peer Recognition; and Sonya McDonald, CEO Award. The CEO Award is presented to the individual who contributed most to the overall success of the credit union. Austin Chapter of Credit Unions, Texas, has been recognized as the Outstanding Philanthropic Organization of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Nominated by the children's Hospital Foundation, the ACCU has committed itself to improving the quality of life in Austin. Since 1987, ACCU has raised over $2.2 million through their Credit Unions for Kids Program. All proceeds from their efforts remain in the Austin community, benefiting the Children's Hospital of Austin.In addition, ACCU holds year-round fundraisers, including ticket sales for a new car drawing, hosting a golf tournament, producing and selling a cookbook, selling passbooks and candy, and holding bake sales, silent auctions and car washes. Philanthropy Day was established in 1986 by a joint resolution of the Congress of the United States of America. This celebration is dedicated to those who give their time, talents and resources for the betterment of our community.</p>
