WASHINGTON – Still in pre-launch of the name registration stage, the National Cooperative Business Association said 602 credit unions have so far registered 944 names that contain the new .coop domain name. According to NCBA, as a sector credit unions have registered more names than any other sector, but have registered fewer names per cooperatives. Credit unions are registering at a faster rate, but only at 1.5 names per CU, below other sectors. The NCBA said it's surprised that CUs aren't thinking more strategically when registering names. For example, registering names that reflect a CU's primary field of membership. One CU that did just that is El Paso Area Teachers FCU. That registered teachers.coop, because teachers make up a core part of its FOM. Here are some examples of CU names that have been registered: paragonfcu.coop, randolphbrooks.coop, volcorp.coop, mycunamutual.coop, maritimecu.coop, tcul.coop, vtfcu.coop.
