Sunmark Federal Credit Union, Schenectady, N.Y., has raised over $12,243 during the second annual Charity Golf Event. Eighty-three golfers attended the event to benefit the City Mission of Schenectady, which will use the funds to help build a new shelter for women and children. Workers` Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., has raised over $700 from the sale of its own "Food for Thoughts" cookbook. Employees submitted their favorite recipes as a way to raise additional funds for the annual United Way campaign. A total of 150 cookbooks containing 120 recipes were printed and sold for seven dollars each. Silver State Schools Credit Union, Las Vegas, has donated $50,000 to the Books are Bridges campaign to help raise funds to purchase library books for at risk schools in the Clark County School District. Sponsored by KLAS TV8 in Las Vegas, the campaign is designed to help increase the number of current book volumes at each at risk school. Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., has sponsored a raffle to benefit the Credit Union Political Action Committee. Anthony Brothers, credit union member since 1972 was the grand prizewinner of a Gateway 2000 Computer package. Over $6,500 was raised. CUPAC helps ensure the credit union side of the story is being heard by elected leaders and promotes the election of pro-credit union candidates to Congress. Taylor Community Credit Union, Mich., has donated $2,000 the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Raising the funds in less than two weeks, members and staff worked together to "bail" TCCU Senior Loan Officer Annette Tolliver out of the Muscular Dystrophy Jail. Over the last three years, TCCU members have contributed over $3,500 to the MDA. Firestone Office Federal Credit Union, Akron, Ohio, has raised over $8,000 during the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. This is the third year the credit union has participated and so far nearly $20,000 has been donated to the fight against cancer. This year's theme "Kick It! Give Cancer the Boot!" helped the "Cancer Posse" gain recognition for having the best team uniforms. Clark County Credit Union, Las Vegas, has partnered with Mainor & Harris Injury Lawyers to offer free bicycle helmets to kids during the Northwest Las Vegas Children's Day. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of child safety issues through fun and activities. Many local organizations were involved, including CCCU, Clark County Safe Kids Coalition, the Las Vegas Fire Department, Las Vegas Metro Police and the Las Vegas Heath District. In addition to donating funds to Mainor & Harris Injury Lawyers for kids helmets, CCCU offered information about their SmartStart program, which provides financial education for kids. Approximately 300 helmets were distributed at the event.
