DALLAS – Credit Union Solutions Group, as a show of support of Sen. Orrin Hatch's (R-Utah) Senate Bill 760-The Clean Efficient Automobiles Resulting from Advanced Car Technologies Act of 2001 (The Clear Act)-has agreed to supply information and educational material to credit union members, through its Preferred Dealer Network, about dealers who sell alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs).
Introduced by Hatch in April 2001 in response to President Bush's call for tax incentives to encourage the use of alternative fuel vehicles as part of his National Energy Plan, The Clear Act awards tax credits for vehicles based on the environmental and fuel efficiency gains resulting from their advanced technology or use of alternative fuels.
At press time, S.760 had 14 co-sponsors and was in the Senate Finance Committee.

CUSG was founded by Brent Poe to provide "environmentally-friendly.multimember services" to credit unions. The company named Salt Lake City as its target market because of Hatch. Salt Lake City was also designated as a "Clean City" by the Department of Energy.
Poe said he sees alternative fuel vehicles as `the future of the country" because "they will reduce our dependency on foreign oil and they cut pollution."
He said he wants to encourage credit unions to put together informational packages about AFVs for members. "It's a learning process," said Poe. "We want to make it clear to credit union CEOs and vice presidents of lending that they should make information about alternative fuel vehicles available so their members are aware of AFVs and can make informed decisions when purchasing a new vehicle."
CUSG's Preferred Dealer Network dealers have access not only to AFVs, but also to ultra low emissions vehicles (ULEVs); Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles (SULEVs) and the traditional inventories of vehicles.
Last October, CUSG entered into a partnership with the National JACL (Japanese American Citizens League) Credit Union, Salt Lake City, Utah to provide the $18 million credit union's more than 4,700 members with access to CUSG's preferred dealer network. [email protected]
