DANA POINT, Calif. – After two false starts, the NASCUS 36th Annual Conference & Symposium was finally held at the Marriott Laguna Cliffs Hotel, Dec. 14-18. The original date of the five-day conference overlapped with CUNA's Annual Symposium, so NASCUS pushed the conference back a week to Sept. 15 – Sept. 17. But following September 11′s events, the association rescheduled the five-day for December. Despite the fact that the event date was so close to the Christmas holiday, the conference still drew nearly 200 attendees including state regulators, state credit union directors and presidents and NCUA officials NASCUS President/CEO Doug Duerr said although attendance was down from what was expected at the conference's September 15 date, "We still accomplished a great deal. No where else in the credit union industry can you find a conference where credit unions and their regulators come together for board meetings and sessions."
