<p>MIRAMAR, Fla. – It’s official: The former Eastern Financial FCU is now called Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union. EFFCU, with assets of more than $1.2 billion, was the third federal credit union in the Sunshine State to convert to a state charter in 2001. The other two were Tropical FCU, now called Tropical Financial CU, and Jax Navy FCU. Jax Navy’s conversion was effective Jan. 1, and at press time the CU had not yet chosen its new name. EFFCU has more than 160,000 members. It operates 18 branches in South Florida and the Tampa Bay region.</p>
