MADISON, Wis. -CUNA Mutual Group employees have beat last year's donations to the United Way of Dane County by 25%. A total of $517,182 was pledged to the local agency's 2002 annual campaign. Exceeding their goal of a 10% increase in giving, 224 out of 1,590 employees and 38 retirees, contributed at the Key Club level of $500 or more. Madison employees pledged a total of $307,182 in addition to this year's fall corporate donation of $210,000. "The events of Sept. 11 cast doubt and caused concern in the community, about whether people would also remember the many needs of individuals and families in our own community," said CUNA Mutual United Way Campaign Chair Deborah Di Carlo. "At CUNA Mutual, we found employees responded in a positive way to the local campaign during a very difficult time in many of our lives."
