WASHINGTON, D.C. -CUNA is officially moved into its new offices located at 601 Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest Washington, D.C. The new facitlity is 29,000 square-feet, but CUNA will be subletting a portion of it (amount not known at press time). Its old office was 18,250 square-feet. An architectural firm suggested CUNA needed at least 23,500 square-feet. While the dcor appears somewhat sparse now, CUNA is still waiting on its permanent reception area furniture and for someone to find the studs for picture hanging. CUNA moved in over Veteran's Day weekend. The main conference room in CUNA's new Washington headquarters finally has room for the entire board or, when necessary, meetings of the entire staff. The room is graced with a large dark wood conference table, complete with telephone and computer jacks, carrying a price tag of $10,000. So far one meeting of the staff has been held in the room regarding anthrax-tainted mail. According to Vice President of Communications and Media Outreach Pat Keefe, CUNA expects to save a great deal of money by holding meetings in this new large conference room rather than renting space at local hotels, as it used to. The portion of the room can also be divided off for another smaller conference room. While some CUNA staffers who had been working out of former closets in CUNA's former Washington location obtained more office space in the new building, others' offices shrunk a little. Overall, the new space does afford more space to the staff of 60, including the number of offices and meeting rooms and the width of the corridors. When CUNA moved into its old location, the staff numbered in the twenties. CUNA will also be subletting some of its new-found office space, but no details have been worked out yet.
