WASHINGTON-Here in Washington, the news is there is not much news on the legislative front. Credit union lobbyists are hopeful that Congress may address an education bill, which includes provisions for youth financial education, and the administration's `compassion' bill, which includes Individual Development Account measures. However, Congress is not likely to address much more credit union-related legislation other than the Foreign Operations Appropriations bill, which is required. The foreign ops bill includes funding for WOCCU projects in Mexico and South Africa. "It's looking less and less likely that Congress will complete anything other than the appropriations bills," CUNA Vice President and Senior Legislative Counsel Gary Kohn said. He predicted that Congress will probably adjourn at the end of the current continuing resolution, December 7.
