DES MOINES, Iowa – Thomas Gronstal was appointed by Gov. Tom Vilsack to be the state's new superintendent of Banking. Gronstal will replace Holmes Foster who will retire at the end of December. Gronstal will assume his new duties on Jan. 1, 2002. He will serve an "interim" appointment until he's confirmed by the Iowa Senate in the spring. As Superintendent of Banking, Gronstal will oversee the activities of the Iowa Division of Banking which regulates the state's 190 state-chartered credit unions. Gronstal's father was Superintendent of Banking of Iowa from 1958 to 1961. – [email protected]
